About

Grove Hill Funeral Home provides Dallas-area families with meaningful and compassionate funeral and cremation services. Grove Hill Memorial Park, has served the community, including many prestigious Dallas families, since 1911. Though times have changed in the 100-plus years since the Elliott family founded the cemetery, our commitment to best-in-class care has not.

Funeral, cremation and burial arrangements

Celebration of life venue for services, gatherings and receptions at Grove Hill Funeral Home & Memorial ParkLocated just south of I-30 and just east of Samuell Grand Park, the funeral home is as convenient for Lakewood as it is for South Dallas and serves a diverse clientele. Built in 1988, it sits adjacent to Grove Hill Memorial Park, so you can make funeral, cremation and burial arrangements at sister locations.

Modern and bright, the 7,000-square-foot funeral home has an inviting chapel as well as a family lounge. The main chapel seats about 200 people. The family lounge is available for families who want to be together before or after a funeral service or memorial.

Unique services for unique lives

At Grove Hill Funeral Home, we pride ourselves on celebrating unique lives with unique services. Every funeral or memorial that we help create is personalized for the individual. We believe that funeral services can go beyond a song and a speech, which is why our staff takes the time to ask questions, gather information and find extra-special ways to give an event a personal touch. We will honor your fishing fanatic, candy lover, golf pro or bookworm in an uncommon and wonderfully memorable way.

Grove Hill Memorial Park cemetery

Mausoleum at Grove Hill Memorial ParkWith gently rolling hills and mature trees, Grove Hill Memorial Park is considered one of the more beautiful cemeteries in North Texas. With more than a century of history behind us, we stand ready to serve our clients with the utmost care for years to come.

Memorial options

Our well-kept grounds span about 160 acres, divided into numerous gardens with names like Resthaven, Hilltop and Good Shepherd, each featuring unique characteristics. As the name implies, Grove Hill Memorial Park is a peaceful, park-like property with many choices for memorialization. Whatever your preference or social background, there is an option that reflects your family’s culture, traditions and budget.

There are areas for flat markers and areas for upright monuments. Cremated remains may be buried or held in cremation niches. Families may also elect to build private mausoleums.

Cemetery with a view

Though Grove Hill sits not far from I-30, it feels far from the bustling city and is an especially lovely cemetery property. From the moment you pass through our brick and iron gates, you will feel comforted. With green grass shaded by huge oaks and more, a small pond, and a wide array of markers and monuments that date back to the 1800s, the setting is idyllic.

To complement the natural beauty of the property, cemetery designers placed thoughtful statues throughout the park. A large stone cross stands tall in the southern part of the cemetery. A praying Jesus sits on the edge of the pond. From a high point in the cemetery, you can even catch a glimmer of the downtown Dallas skyline.

Children’s gardens

Unique features at Grove Hill Memorial ParkGrove Hill Memorial Park includes 2 gardens dedicated to the precious lives of children. Babyland is the main children’s garden. It is here that a family may elect to bury their child among other children gone too soon. The second section is called Garden of Angels. Established in partnership with Baylor University Medical Center, this special area honors infants and babies who died prematurely or in utero.

Notable resting places

From outlaws to police chiefs, sports figures to business icons, quite a few notable Dallasites are buried at Grove Hill Memorial Park. Dallas Mayor John Hay as well as Texas Governor Bill Clements are interred here. So are Major League Baseball player Percy Lee Jones and a whole family of professional wrestlers who carried the Von Erich name. Beloved real estate mogul Ebby Halliday, who was born the same year the cemetery opened and lived to be 104, was buried at Grove Hill in 2015.

Annual community events

Each year Grove Hill Funeral Home and Grove Hill Memorial Park host events to help families continue to remember and celebrate their loved ones. These special events include 2 Mother’s Day services (1 for the general population and 1 for the Hispanic community in particular), a lively Día de los Muertos program and a holiday service in December. Hundreds of people attend these special events.

History

Grove Hill Funeral Home & Memorial ParkThe Elliott family established Grove Hill Memorial Park at what is now the intersection of Ferguson Road and Samuell Boulevard in East Dallas in 1911. In the century-plus since, more than 60,000 people have been buried at Grove Hill Memorial Park, though if you walk the cemetery property, you will find grave markers dating back to the 1800s. That’s because when Grove Hill first opened, many families moved their loved ones from other burial spots to our cemetery.

A cemetery with a past, for the future

Though Grove Hill Memorial Park was always considered a perpetual care cemetery, the designation was made official in the 1950s, when it was legally organized as a not-for-profit corporation. The significant level of dedication to the upkeep of the property is evident to this day.

Continued service

In 1988, Grove Hill Funeral Home was built adjacent to the cemetery. With a modern look and feel, and a location convenient to many parts of the city, it quickly became a choice funeral provider in the Dallas area.

In 1989, Grove Hill Funeral Home joined the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services in North America. The cemetery followed suit in 2000.
